Privacy Policy

1. Who operates this service

Japan Race ("the service") is operated from Japan by the site operator. For any privacy question, data request, or complaint, contact contact@runinjapan.com.

2. Information we collect

Account data. You can sign in with Google, with X (Twitter), or with an email magic link. We never see or store a password. Depending on the method, we store: your email address, display name, and avatar URL provided by the sign-in provider; if you sign in with X, your X handle and numeric X user ID; and your preferred language.

Race-watch subscriptions. When you watch a race, we store your email address, the races you watch, and your preferred language so we can send you notifications. No account is required for this.

Content you submit. If you submit race attendance evidence (a link to a Strava activity, an official result, or a photo), reviews, tips, or votes, that content is stored and tied to your account. Attendance evidence links are reviewed by an administrator before any verified-runner status is granted.

3. How we use your information

We use your data to sign you in, to send the emails you asked for (subscription confirmations, registration-phase alerts, race-plan notifications, and runner-connect introductions), to verify attendance evidence, and to display your reviews and tips in your chosen language. We do not sell your data or use it for third-party advertising.

4. Emails and unsubscribing

Notification emails are delivered through Resend, our email delivery provider. Every notification email contains a signed one-click unsubscribe link that works without logging in. You can also ask us to stop all emails at any time by writing to contact@runinjapan.com.

5. Cookies

We use essential cookies only: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and the security cookies (such as CSRF protection) required by the sign-in flow. We do not run analytics, advertising, or any third-party tracking scripts, and we do not set tracking cookies.

6. Runner connect

If runners watching the same race choose to connect, the process is double opt-in. We never share your name, email address, or any personal detail with other runners. You only ever see a count of interested runners, and introductions are relayed manually by the site curator with the explicit consent of both sides.

7. Third parties who process data for us

Sign-in providers (Google, X) process your authentication under their own privacy policies. Resend processes email delivery. Our hosting infrastructure providers store the service's database and serve the website. We share with each of them only what is necessary to run the service.

8. Data retention, access, and deletion

We keep your data while your account or subscription is active. To access, correct, export, or delete your data, email contact@runinjapan.com and we will respond within a reasonable period. Deleting your account removes your personal data; published reviews may be retained in anonymized form.

9. Your legal rights

The service is operated from Japan and handles personal information in line with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI). If you are in the European Union or EEA, you also have the rights granted by the GDPR, including the rights of access, rectification, and erasure. Exercise any of these rights via the contact address above.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
